WHO IS DASC?
Founded in 1997, the Dressage Association of Southern California has grown from a grass roots organization to a membership body in excess of 300 individuals. Geographically, DASC stretches from San Diego to the Central Coast, but let's not forget our members in Nevada, Arizona, Washington, and even New York! Our membership is delightfully diverse with riders of all ages competing successfully from Training Level to Grand Prix.
DASC is committed to fostering the growth and development of its riding membership, providing educational opportunities throughout the year. Our dressage shows welcome horse and rider combinations of all levels, in many cases providing first-time junior and amateur exhibitors with a friendly, non-threatening introduction to the competition arena. Several of our Junior/Young Rider members have used their DASC qualifying scores to go on to compete at national and international competitions.
OUR SHOWS
Our Competition Calendar boasts over seventy “Four-Star” shows in convenient locations throughout Southern California and Nevada. Competitors are afforded the opportunity to earn qualifying scores toward the DASC, CDS, USEF and USDF championships before nationally and internationally recognized judges. And in 2008, we added DASC recognition to the Interscholastic Equestrian League (IEL) competitions, for our up and coming high-school age competitors.
Our competition year culminates in the DASC Championship Show, presented each September. Special neck ribbons and awards are distributed to DASC Champions and Reserve Champions in the Junior, Amateur and Open Divisions.
Scores earned in regular non-championship classes at our Championship Show go towards next year's qualifying for DASC and USDF. Year-end awards are also earned in those open classes up until the last day of the Championship Show. Year End "breed" awards are given to the top horses for horse/rider combinations at all levels, including divisions for non-traditional and non-registered breeds. Each year, DASC has an awards dinner to celebrate these accomplishments. Special awards are also given: "Student of the Year", "Trainer of the Year", "Show Venue of the Year", "Show Manager of the Year" and "Volunteer of the Year". These award recipients are nominated by the membership.
MEMBERSHIP
The DASC membership year begins December 1 and ends on November 30. An exhibitor must be a paid member in good standing when qualifying scores are earned. A membership in DASC automatically includes a group membership in the United States Dressage Federation and a subscription to the bi-monthly award winning DASC newsletter, Collected Comments.
